Braille Translator
Upload a photo of Braille text and get an English translation. This tool helps sighted people read documents written in Braille.
About This Tool
Braille expertise is becoming rare. This translator helps bridge the gap between blind Braille writers and sighted readers who need to understand their documents.
Grade 1 Braille: Direct letter-by-letter transcription
Grade 2 Braille: Uses contractions and shortcuts (more common in books and documents)
Tips for Best Results
- Lighting: Side lighting creates shadows that make dots visible to the camera
- Angle: Photograph straight-on, not at an angle
- Focus: Make sure the dots are in sharp focus
- Contrast: White paper with good lighting works best
- Multiple photos: If a document has multiple pages, translate each separately
Help Us Improve
Every translation you submit (with your feedback) helps us build better Braille recognition. The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind community is helping pioneer this technology.
When you provide corrections, you're contributing to a training dataset that will make future translations more accurate.
